Mr Doe Adjaho First Speaker of Parliament, on Friday cut the sod for the commencement of two development projects in the Akatsi District of the Volta Region estimated at GH¢2 million.
The projects include the construction of Akatsi - Xavi - Abor roads and the re-construction of a concrete bridge on Akatsi – Xavi road, which would attract the provision of major culverts and storm water drainage system to solve flooding in the area.
Ave Afiadenyigba would also benefit from a dam project and the development of 10- hectare arable land to boost agricultural production in the area.
First Sky Limited a local construction firm is constructing the roads which are expected to be completed in six months, while Munisco Limited, the company building the dam at a cost of GH¢1 million, is expected to complete within nine months.
Mr Adjaho said completion of the roads would boost eco tourism since there would be easy access to the eco sites in the area.
Dr Ben Nyamadi, Chief Executive Officer of Irrigation Development Authority said the dam project is among 10 listed for the area.
He asked the people to prevent the growing of trees in the dam and should rather protect the facility by planting grass around it to prevent erosion.
Dr Nyamadi said the construction of the dam would transform the agricultural activities in the area thereby creating employment to the youth to curtail the rural- urban drift.
It would also improve the movement of goods and services and the socio- economic lives of the people.
The Chief for the area; Torgbui Letsa Korba II, thanked Mr Adjaho for his development efforts.
