The Nkoranza Traditional Council (NTC) has installed the First Lady, Mrs Lordina Dramani Mahama, as Sompahemaa for her unsurpassed contribution and meritorious services to the area’s holistic development.

Mrs Mahama, aged 51 and an indigene of Bodom and Jema-Ampoma in the Nkoranza Traditional Area, was given a stool name as Nana Akosua Frema Ampoma Sika I.

‘Sompahemaa’ traditionally means queen of worthy service whose massive and diverse contribution has brought about progress to enhance the livelihoods of the people.

In a glamorous ceremony on Saturday at Nkoranza in the Brong-Ahafo Region, Okatakyie Agyemang Kodom IV, Paramount Chief of Nkoranza, described Mrs Mahama as an illustrious and worthy daughter who, being the first lady, has not only brought glory to Nkoranzaman but contributed massively to enhance their socio-economic development.

Okatakyie Kodom recounted the numerous developmental projects that had given Nkoranza a facelift, citing the elevation of Nkoranza South District to a Municipality and erection of traffic lights in the Nkoranza Township, construction of a modern one-storey Municipal Police Headquarters, a fire tender for the Municipal Fire Service and a number of educational projects.

He also mentioned the reshaping and tarring of link and access roads as well as provision of water and health facilities in both the Nkoranza South Municipality and Nkoranza North District, saying these socio- economic amenities and facilities were all provided through the instrumentality of President Mahama during his era as the Vice President.

The Nkoranza Paramount Chief praised the First Lady for her campaign against HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases in Ghana and Africa and again commended President Mahama for his efforts in the prevention and elimination the Ebola disease in West Africa.

In a brief speech, Nana Ampoma Sika pledged to continue with her support and humanitarian services to the chiefs and people of the Traditional Area.

People from all walks of life attended the ceremony, notable amongst them were chiefs, ministers of state, National Democratic Congress party functionaries and activists, business and corporate executives, the media and the extended family of President John Dramani Mahama from Gonjaland and other parts of the country.
