Kade, Sept 14, GNA - It was all smiles from hundreds of children in the Kwaebibirem District on their first day at school when they joined thousands of children throughout the country to taste school life for the first time last Tuesday.

Four-year-olds entering kindergarten, which had been made part of primary school education under the new education reform, shouted for joy as the District Chief Executive, Mr Yaw Yiadom-Boakye, toured some towns and villages distributing "my first day at school 2007" caps and the Ghana at 50 drinking cups to the little ones.

He told them to grow to become good boys and girls and learn hard. At Pramkese, Mr Yiadom-Boakye met a 42-year-old JSS two pupil who is the father of nine children.

Benjamin Alokpa said he dropped out of school in class six in 1979 and realizing that without education one was "backward and useless" he decided to go back to school and enrolled at the Pramkese District Assembly JSS last year. The DCE congratulated him for his determination to continue school in spite of his age.
