First time pupils feted on day one at school

Wa, Sept 17, GNA - First time pupils of selected primary schools in the Wa Municipality on Tuesday tasted their first day in formal education with a snack of biscuits, soft drinks and some candies. Mr George Hikah Benson, Upper West Regional Minister accompanied by Mr Abdul-Aziz Mohammed, Wa Municipal Chief Executive and some top officials of the Ghana Education Service in Wa joined the pupils to interact.

The Regional Minister and his entourage visited TI Ahmadiyya A and B Primary Schools, Bamahu L/A Primary School and Piisi Catholic Primary Schools. At the TI Ahmadiyya A and B Primary Schools, a total of 59 pupils comprising 28 boys and 31 girls had reported for primary one. The Bamahu L/A Primary School registered 28 boys and 18 girls in Kindergarten, while Primary class one had 14 boys and nine girls on the first day.

When the Regional Minister and his entourage went to Piisi Catholic Primary School, there were 15 boys and 11 girls in Kindergarten, while primary class one had 28 boys and 12 girls. During an interaction with the children Mr Benson advised them to give maximum respect to their teachers, parents and elders, saying "God blesses any child who respects elders".

When he asked them what they wanted to become in future, most of them mentioned doctor, while a few others said they wanted to be Ministers like the Regional Minister, lawyers and teachers. Mr Cletus Paaga, the Regional Director of Education also urged them to avoid fighting in school and rather take their lessons seriously to enable them realise their dreams.
