Juaben (Ash), Dec 1, GNA - The Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana (PPAG) has selected five districts in the Ashanti Region to form Network Advocacy Groups to train them to educate people on Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH) problems and how to address them.
The districts are the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Afigya-Sekyere, Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma, Atwima and the Ejisu-Juaben districts. Mr Emmanuel Manu, an Assistant Project Officer of the PPAG, said this at an open day and inauguration of the first of such Advocacy Network Groups in the Ejisu-Juaben District.
The Ejisu-Juaben Network Groups is made up of traditional authorities, religious groups, parent and youth advocacy groups, from the five communities namely Boankra, Asotwe, Onwi, Bonwire and Juaben.
The formation and training of members of the Network Groups is being carried out under the Youth for Fife programme of the PPAG and sponsored by the African Youth Alliance.
Mr Manu explained that the rationale behind the formation of the groups is to help build their capacity and give them a greater insight into how to address problems of SRH.
He said "by this approach, national efforts at reaching out adequately with messages on SRH issues, including teenage pregnancies, HIV/AIDS and early sex to people in remote communities, will be facilitated."
Mr Manu however, cautioned members of the Network Advocacy Groups against turning themselves into specialists in handling of SRH problems. "Issues beyond your comprehension should immediately be referred to the appropriate authorities for prompt action", he said.
