Five robbers remanded for snatching bag

Aflao (V/R), Sept. 11, GNA - Five people, including an herbalist, were on Wednesday remanded by an Aflao Circuit Court for snatching a handbag containing six million cedis belonging to a trader at the Aflao bus terminal.

They are Baba Awudu, 30, the herbalist, Frank Laforneku, 29, an artist, Robert Tengey, 32, Kayode Ibrahim, 30 and Amuzu Doe, 26, all carpenters. Except Tengey, all the four others pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to steal and stealing and are to be brought to court again on September 17. Inspector Victoria Mensah of Aflao Police told the court that on September 3 Kwakutse arrived at Aflao from Accra at night and passed the night on a bench at the bus terminal.

He put his head on the bag containing the money and the five, led by Tengey, snatched it and fled.

But the caps they wore to disguise them fell from two of them including Awudu whose name was printed in his cap leading to his arrest. Awudu later mentioned the names of the other robbers and they were arrested.
