Wa, June 20, GNA - Forty communities in the Lawra District of the Upper West Region who were victims of the 2007/8 flood disaster in Northern Ghana are benefiting from a twenty month "Food for Work" facility. It seeks to ensure that food insecure households and communities that were affected by the floods effectively mitigated the negative effects of food price hikes during the lean season. The programme is being implemented by Care International, with the collaboration of the Nandom Deanery Integrated Rural Development Programme (NANDIRDEP), and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture. A statement issued by NANDIRDEP said the facility would help beneficiary communities to recover from the shocks created by the disaster. The statement said in order to build on the gains made out of the 2007/8 support, Care International again sought support from the Europeans Union with OXFAM to again carry out the gesture. 20 June 10
