Takoradi July 11, GNA- Awulae Annor Adjaye III, Paramount Chief Of Western Nzema Traditional area, has called on organisations charged with helping flood victims and distressed communities to be proactive in their response to duty.
He asked these organisations to make critical interventions to bring relief as quickly as possible to all flood-affected communities. Addressing a press conference in Takoradi, which was attended by chiefs, queen mothers and other opinion leaders from the traditional area, he stressed: "Resources meant for flood victims should be properly co-ordinated, monitored and efficiently handled." He said recent floods in the area had claimed one life at Bonwire and destroyed personal property and roads.
Awulae Annor Adjaye said flood-hit areas like Nzulezo, Benyin, Bonyere, Elubo, Half-Assini needed urgent attention especially Nzulezo Tourist Centre, which generate a lot of revenue to the State. He said the Tikobo Number One-Benyin- Eikwe road was so bad that it was impossible to convey people who needed medical attention at the Eikwe health facility on it.
Awulae Annor said the bad nature of the Adesuazo- Takinta road had cut- off people in the area. He said floods in the area were not about people building on water ways and indiscriminate disposal of refuse into drains, but about the poor drainage system.
"Our people are highly educated by their elders that, they know where to dump and burn their garbage" he stressed. Nana Beliafa, Queen Mother of Nzulezo also expressed worry about the flood situation and called on the government to act quickly to alleviate the plight of the victims. "Our children are unable to go to school because of bad road network and this is really a problem to us and the country as whole. We are even loosing revenue," she said.
