Friends of Coventry University, Ghana Chapter (FOCUS Ghana) this weekend embarked on a three-day free medical screening outreach programme to Yendi in the Northern Region.
The outreach, which formed part of an annual event by the association aimed at preventing diseases, was also to reduce the cost of healthcare treatment for patients in Yendi.
Over five hundred locals in Yendi and neighbouring communities such as Zabzugu, and Chereponi showed up for this outreach with various medical conditions. The patients were screened for free and given various drugs for their ailments. They also had a talk on family planning and had eye screening from experts.
Mr Gilbert Nyavie, the Vice-President of the Association said FOCUS Ghana, expressed his joy at the turn out for the outreach and thanked the Chief and people of Yendi for the opportunity to serve them.
He expressed profound appreciation to Aide Chemist, the main sponsors of this year’s medical outreach. “I also want to thank Compass Oleum, Petrosol, Edern Security Services limited, Intercity STC Coaches Ltd and finally Mr. Osmond Amuah for their tremendous support and donations to ensure the success of this year’s medical outreach” he added.
He further stated that he was taken aback by the selfless dedication of his volunteers before, during and after the project and encouraged them to continue to serve their nation whenever they were called on.
The volunteers on the other hand expressed their joy of having to serve the people of Yendi and in the process created lasting bonds with fellow volunteers.
Speaking to the head of Aide Chemist, Abigail Abora, she said “Aide Chemist’s primary goal is to provide quality healthcare to the less privileged and vulnerable communities we are located in. The Focus Ghana vision to provide free health care to the people of Yendi in the Northern district aligned with ours. Hence we welcomed the opportunity to partner with them on this year’s medical outreach”
The programme officially ended on Sunday and executives and volunteers are looking forward to having an even better outreach next year.
