Follow Government's laid down plan for quality education - MCE

Winneba (C/R), March 2, GNA - The Effutu Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Nii Epheraim has appealed to private schools to follow the government's laid down policies towards the provision of quality teaching and learning.

Mr Epheriam made the appeal when he addressed teachers and pupils of private schools in the Effutu Municipality during their Week Celebration at Winneba in the Central Region. The celebration which was under the theme 93private schools in an emerging middle income economy", commenced with a clean-up exercise in the town, float and sporting activities. He urged them to continue to play their roles efficiently so that the children in the Municipality would acquire the needed skills to become future leaders.

Mrs Elizabeth Ennimil, the Municipal Director of Education, commended proprietors of the private schools for their complementary roles they were exhibiting to promote education in the area. She urged them to continue to contribute their quota to the development of the children to enable them acquire quality education to be come productive in future.

Mrs Ennimil urged the pupils to concentrate on the books to help them achieve their aims in life, adding that indulging in immoral acts, like drugs, indecent dressing, disrespect to authorities would not bring progress into their lives and that they should eschew those practices.

Mr Charles C. Robertson, Chairman of the Local Private Schools Association said it was without a shred of doubt that the provision of adequate and appropriate education to meet challenges of an emerging middle income economy is essential hence the role of private schools. He said based on this, private schools in the area had improved their facilities and environment to engender quality teaching and learning.

He said plans were far advanced to build the capacity of teachers through training programmes to up-date their skills and improve teaching and learning to achieve the needed quality education. Mr Robertson stated that private schools in the area were committed in operating within the guidelines and syllabus under the auspices of the Ghana Education Service to ensure that the children were well groomed.
