Forestry Commission to set up customer centres in Brong Ahafo

Dormaa Ahenkro (B/A), April 25, GNA- The Forestry Commission has set up 21 customer service centres on pilot basis to serve as information centres to help solve forest related problems. The centres would be at Sunyani, Dormaa Ahenkro, Kintampo, Atebubu and Bechem all in Brong Ahafo and Juaso in Ashanti.

Mr Agyemang Prempeh Koranteng, acting customer services manager of the Commission disclosed at the launch of the centre at Dormaa Ahenkro on Friday.

He explained that the establishment of the centres was to help decentralise the system, as bureaucracy was a major problem that had hindered development.

Mr Emmanuel Duku, Dormaa District Chief Executive, expressed concern about the increase in the illegal felling of timber and chainsaw operations in the forest.

He urged the people to be vigilant and expose such economic saboteurs to help protect the environment.

The DCE appealed to the Forest Services Division to educate the people about the social responsibility of timber merchants to ensure the development of communities in which they operated. Mr Kusi Appiah, Officer in charge of the centre at Dormaa Ahenkro advised the people to patronise the facility.
