Kumasi, Jan. 1, GNA- An appeal has been made to the Forestry Commission (FC), to institute practical measures aimed at promoting the processing of saw-dust for use as fuel in place of charcoal and fuel wood.

The appeal was contained in a New Year's message by the Ghana Tertiary Wood Products Association and signed by its President, Togbe S.K. Fugah in Kumasi on Thursday.

The message said such promotional drives, should also be extended to the various sawmills, and encourage them to equally use sawdust as fuel for certain aspects of the processing of wood.

The pressure on the scarce forest resources will be minimised, while the rate of depletion of the country's forests could also be conveniently checked, the message said.

It advised all those engaged in the tertiary wood products manufacture industry, to strive to upgrade their skills and knowledge, so as to enable them to appreciate the techniques of putting every bit of wood into proper use, instead of allowing them to go waste.

The message stated that in addition to acquisition of knowledge, it was vital for them to have modern equipment and sharp tools that would help them process wood without waste, and enhance their chances of coming out with quality products.
