Forestry guard dies in a gory accident at Tamso

A thirty-five-year-old forestry guard, Emmaunel Manu has died in a gory accident that happened at Tamso in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality at the weekend.

The driver, Kofi Ampomah, who was driving a Toyota Corolla taxi cab with registration number AS 4928-18, together with the deceased’s colleague Clement Kwaakye, 32, are battling for their lives at the Apinto government hospital.

Chief Inspector George Kwabena Osei, from the Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD) in Tarkwa disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA).

He said at the weekend at about 1900 hours, one Osei Badu a resident of Nzemaline reported at the Tarkwa police station that on the same day at about 0230 hours, the deceased and Kwaakye who were both forestry guards had boarded Amponsah's taxi cab from Ahwetieso to Tarkwa.

He said on reaching a section of the road at Tamso, Amponsah attempted to overtake a truck and in the process skidded off the road and ran into a ditch.

According to him, all the occupants in the vehicle sustained various degree of injuries and were rushed to the Apinto government hospital by some helpful witnesses, but Manu was pronounced dead on arrival.

Chief Inspector Osei said the suspected driver and Kwaakye were on admission receiving treatment, while the body of the deceased was deposited at the morgue for autopsy.

He said to ensure the safety of road users on the Tarkwa-Takoradi Highway, the accident vehicle was impounded at the Tarkwa police station to enable the police conduct an in-depth investigation into the case.
