A former Kumasi based divine priest who embraced Islam, Sheikh Sharabutu Nana Kwaku Dua has expressed deep sorrow following the passing away of the Otumfuo Apagyahene, Oheneba Kwame Kyeretwie who served Asanteman for over four and half decades.

A statement issued by the office of Nana Dua on Friday expressed condolences to the Asantehene, Otufuo Osei Tutu II, the entire Apagyafie of Kumasi, former president John Agyekum Kufuor and the former mayor of Kumasi, Nana Akwasi Agyeman over the loss of their loved one.

The statement described the late Oheneba Kyeretwie as “a great man who served the Asanteman Council and Ghana with selfless heart and distinction, a service which has earned him a place of pride among the country’s past heroes”.

It continued that the country may never get the like of the “fallen hero who was truthful, honest, exceptional, industrious and well versed in matters of traditional governance”

The statement said nobody or group of have persons have ever leveled any allegations against the former son of Otumfuo Sir Agyeman Prempe II throughout his reign. A rare accomplishment achieved only by a few.

“Oheneba Kyeretwie has throughout his life demonstrated that he is a true Asante royal who upheld the values of dignity, high sense of morality, social justice to all manner of persons irrespective of their background and commitment to duty” the statement added.

It said the values that led to the establishment of the Asante kingdom by Otumfuo Osei Tutu I, were kept alive by the likes of Oheneba Kyeretwie who have long realized that privilege means service to humanity.

The statement ended by calling on the youth to emulate the exemplary lifestyle of the departed Apagyahene and learn to serve their communities and country at large with distinction and commitment.

“The life and times of Oheneba will mean nothing to us as a country if we do not learn from his achievements. The youth in particular should learn positive lessons from the fallen oak and contribute their quota to their communities and mother Ghana”.
