Former Member of Parliament donates to school

Asamang (Ash), June 16, GNA - Mr James Adusei Sarkodie, the former Member of Parliament (MP) for Atwima-Nwabiagya, has donated 100 bags of cement towards the construction of an extra primary school block at Asamang near Asuofua in the Atwima-Nwabiagya District.

Mr Opoku Akyeampong, the Headteacher of the school who announced this at an open day at Asamang on Wednesday, said the block would absorb the large number of school going-age children in the area. The school's open day coincided with the graduation ceremony of the junior secondary school pupils who are the first batch to sit for this year's Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and a fund-raising harvest in aid of the renovation of the school office. Mr Akyeampong expressed dissatisfaction with the community's apathetic attitude towards the school's activities and programmes and called for a change of attitude.

Mr Baffour Asare-Bediako, an Assistant Director of Education in-charge of Human Resource Management and Development at the education directorate, stressed the importance of cordial school-community partnership for efficient promotion of quality education. He said it is the responsibility of the community to give adequate support and encouragement to the school authorities to enable them effectively harness the children's potential and talents.

Mr Yaw Boafo, Headmaster of Tetrem Secondary School and a citizen of the area, commended the school authorities for showcasing the academic achievements of the school to the public and called on the citizens to lend them their maximum support and encouragement.
