Forty people attend workshop on grasscutter rearing at Tarkwa

Tarkwa(W/R), July 17, GNA - Mr. Abeiku Garchie, an official of the Wassa West District Assembly has appealed to Ghanaians to embrace animal rearing as an alternative source of livelihood.

He said the importance of rearing animals from the wild was often downplayed but the nobility of seeking other sources of income by rearing animals other than domestic ones should not be under-rated. Mr. Garchie made the appeal when addressing 40 participants attending a day's workshop on grasscutter rearing at Tarkwa. The International Centre for Sustainable Livelihood Development, a Non-Governmental Organisation and Entrepreneurship Development Business Advisory Centre at Tarkwa jointly organised the workshop. Mr. Garchie expressed appreciation to the participants for venturing into animal rearing and said anyone venturing any business should have adequate knowledge achieve success.

He appealed to the youth engaged in 'galamsey' to undertake grasscutter rearing to earn a living.

Mr. John Kumi Gyimah, a Resource Person said grasscutter was a source of protein, insulin for diabetic patients, employment and income for families.

He said grasscutter rearing required low capital to begin and they feed on forage and food waste and had ready market.
