Mankessim (C/R) Nov.24, GNA-Participants at a meeting to find solution to the congestion of the Mankessim central business area have urged the Mfantseman District Assembly to relocate some of the lorry stations from the main station to other parts of the town to bring sanity in the area.
The participants were made up of executives of drivers union, traders association leaders, security officers, Assembly Members and some opinion leaders in Mankessim. The meeting was organised by the Mfantseman District branch of the United Nations Association of Ghana, member of World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) to find solution to the congestion in the area.
According to WFUNA, the congestion in that area not only affected economic activities but also created problems for traders, travellers and revenue mobilization by the Assembly. WFUNA, a world body with a branch in Ghana with its headquarters in Accra, has regional and district officers throughout the country to work hand-in-hand with the government to find solution to problems facing the people.
The meeting was mandated by the Acting President of United Nations Association Ghana to meet the GPRTU branch and Co-operative Drivers Union and the District Assembly on how best to decongest the area to facilitate business. Bishop Peter Sackey, Special Assistant to the Secretary General of the Association in Ghana, hoped that participants would study the points raised in their proposals towards the decongestion of the area and help find solution to the problem. He appealed the drivers unions in the town to cooperate with the authorities and Agencies involved in the decongestion programme. Bishop Sackey said the decongestion exercise should not be politicized but should be considered as a way of improving the lives of the people in the area.
