Forum on Adaptive Forest Management held at Otaakrom

Otaakrom (Ash), Nov 10, GNA - Mr Stephen Assim-Nyarko, Acting Nkawie District Manager of the Forest Services Division (FSD) of the Forestry Commission, has expressed satisfaction with the collaboration between the FSD and fringe communities in the protection of forest reserves.

He, however, deplored the habit of some members of the fringe communities who aid illegal chainsaw operators to fell trees illegally from the reserves.

Mr Assim-Nyarko was speaking at a day's forum on Adaptive Forest Management for participants at a seminar at Otaakrom in the Atwima-Mponua District.

It was organised by the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in conjunction with the Wageningen International of Netherlands.

The forum was aimed at creating a platform for the presentation of their findings based on field investigations. It was found that the Forestry Commission has a low collaboration status with fringe communities.
