Foundation presents school uniforms to deprived schools

Accra, Oct. 13, GNA - The Foundation for Deprived Children in Ghana (FDCG), has presented over 1,500 school uniforms and research materials worth about 4,850 dollars to needy schools in Greater Accra, Central and Ashanti Regions.

The donation of the uniform formed part of a project dubbed: "School Uniform Drive Project" which is being embarked upon by the Foundation to support deprived and under-privilege schools nationwide. The presentations of the items were made on separate days and occasions for the beneficiary institutions in the respective regions by the Foundation. The schools were the La Presbyterian Senior High School in Greater Accra, Kokofu L/A Primary and Junior High School and Adansi Praso Anglican and Salvation Nursery, Primary and Junior High School, all in the Ashanti Region and Assin Brofoyedur Primary and Junior High School and Arch Bishop Amissah Primary and Junior High School in the Central Region.


Nana Yaw Foster Gish, the Executive Director of FDCG said the project in being implemented with sponsorship from Rosevelt District School in New York, and other organizations also in USA. He said the Foundation was soliciting supports from several other institutions and organisations abroad, who were willing to assist the under privilege and deprived people in Africa, especially Ghana. Mr Gish expressed gratitude to Ms Pat Charttern and Ms Glynis Samb, leaders of a delegation from the Rosevelt School in USA to Ghana to help with the presentation of the items to the beneficiary schools. The delegation also donated a 20 footer container of education supplies, clothing and foot-wears to be distributed in some communities in Ghana.

The Project's Coordinator of FDCG, Mr Delinda Baffour Yaw Fosuhene commended government for providing free basic education as well as free feeding in the public schools. He called on parents to act in the interest of their children and the society as a whole by supporting the schools in their communities and not to rely only on government alone. At the Ashanti Region, the Chief of Adansi Praso, Nana Agyeman thanked the donors for the presentation and assured them of protecting and building a community of brilliant and healthy students. At Greater Accra, the headmaster of the La Presby Senior High School, the only beneficiary school that received the research materials also thanked the FDCG and the US team for the support. He assured the Foundation that the schools would use the materials for the intended purpose and called on other bodies and individuals to emulate the example. 13 Oct. 08
