Nsawam, Oct. 11, GNA - The Reverend Kwabena Ofosu Addo, Nsawam District Manager of Presbyterian Schools, has commended founding fathers of mission and church schools, for their vision and foresight, which had brought the schools this far.

He also praised founders of such schools for their pioneering roles in the form of sacrifices, commitment and devotion to duty, which had helped sustained the schools, and earned them respect in society. Rev Addo, who is also the District Minister of the Presbyterian Church, made these commendations in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Nsawam, to throw light on the forthcoming 120th anniversary celebration of the Nsawam Presbyterian Basic Schools (NPBS), slated for Saturday, October 15.

The theme for the occasion is: "Effective Basic Education - The Bedrock For National Development."

He expressed concern about the poor state of the schools' infrastructural development, pointing out that this had made it highly impossible for the schools to respond adequately and positively to the growing demands for quality education and effective community leadership.

Rev Addo, therefore, reminded alumni of the schools that as they joined in the celebration, it was incumbent upon them to "come over to Macedonia" and assist to put their alma mater into good shape. He disclosed that 1.8 billion cedis would be needed to give the schools a face-lift, and to put up a computer centre and a laboratory complex.

The District Manager of Schools said currently the District Presbyterian Church was undertaking a pilot project at the schools, starting with the provision of 10 computers.

He mentioned the re-roofing of classroom blocks, the provision of building materials, more computers and library books, and the re-painting of the school, as the most immediate needs of the schools. Rev Addo appealed to church groups, para-church organisation, non-governmental organisations, public0-spirited individuals and groups of individuals, firms and companies to make generous contributions towards the realisation of the schools' set goals.
