Garu (U/E), March 11, GNA - Four boreholes estimated at about 80 million cedis have been commissioned in four communities in the newly created Garu-Tempane District of the Upper East Region.

The facility was provided by the Al-Wuda Muslim Society, a non-governmental organization (NGO), through the initiative of the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Mr Joseph Akudibillah. The MP who commissioned the projects, reiterated government's desire to collaborate with development partners to improve the living conditions of people in the rural communities.

He said government would live up to its responsibilities by providing basic amenities to meet the aspirations of people in all parts of the country.

He thanked the NGO for its assistance and urged the beneficiary communities to complement government's efforts by taking proper care of public facilities to ensure longevity and maximum benefit.

Mr. Akudibillah, who is also Deputy Minister of Defence, called on the people to patronise the forthcoming voters registration exercise so they could exercise their franchise in this year's general election. He urged Ghanaians to reciprocate government's determination to create a level playfield for all political parties by eschewing the use of provocative campaign language and ensuring a peaceful election for the stability of the nation.

The MP stressed the need for unity among the people, and advised them to avoid divisive tendencies which he said would only undermine social stability and eventually lead to the diversion of resources meant for poverty reduction into conflict management.

The Project Manager of Al-Wuda, Sheikh Karlas, underscored the need for NGOs to assist government to improve upon the welfare of the citizenry.

He announced his organisation's plans to construct schools and mosques in the area as its contribution to the development process.
