Four Ga West communities appeal for irrigation facilities

Amamole (G/A), Jan. 3, GNA - Nii Tettey Okpe, Chief of Amamole in the Ga West District has appealed to Assembly to construct an irrigation dam serve four communities in the area.

He said residents of Odumase, Amamole, Amanfro and Oshiuman communities had specialised in vegetable farming and that the construction of the dam would enable them to engage in an all year round cultivation of vegetables including okro, garden eggs pepper and tomatoes.

Nii Okpe made the appeal at the launch of a four-year development plan estimated at about 2.4 billion cedis organised by the chiefs and the people Amamole in the Ga West District.

He said some of the project envisaged included the construction of a JSS block, library, expansion of the clinic and the building of nurses' quarters and a communication centre.

Mr. Joseph Nartey, Secretary to the Town Development Committee said the projects would be undertaken through communal labour and contributions of 200,000 cedis each per adults, while non-residents citizens pay 500,000 cedis each.

He said the people had erected 70 electricity poles and appealing to non-governmental organisations and philanthropists to come to their aid of the town to get connected to the national grid.

Naa Dede Okoryoo II, Queenmother of Amamole commended the people for their self-help spirit and urged the youth, especially the girls to visit home to support in developmental projects. 03 Jan. 05
