Four basic schools in the Ga West Municipality have been closed down following attacks on pupils and teachers by some members of the community.
The two Primary Schools and two Junior High Schools have been closed down since Friday. Only the final year students were in class as of Tuesday.
Authorities of the schools said they had to risk their lives because of their pupils' final exams next week.
The Municipal Director of Education, Daniel Budu Asiedu took the action last Friday because of the state of insecurity in the Asofan Cluster of Schools.
Mr. Asiedu has not reported the matter to the police. He says he wants to manage the relationship between the school and the community.
He said “the school belonged to the community. So we don’t want to create tension between the school and the community” by causing the arrests of culprits.
Nii Ayi Aryeetey is a sub-chief of Asofan and promised, the traditional authorities will ensure the culprits will not go unpunished.
The attackers are expected to apologise to the school authorities and also sign a bond of good behavior.
The school authorities are hopeful the process of redress will be completed by Wednesday so that the children can return to school by Thursday.
