Four communities appeal for good drinking water

Bayerebon Number One (Ash), Oct. 14, GNA - Four communities in the Atwima District of Ashanti have made an appeal to the Atwima District Assembly for the provision of boreholes to eradicate the guinea worm disease, which was endemic in the area.

The communities are Bayerebon Number One, Bayerebon Number Two, Bayerebon Number Three and Kakaakyire.

Mr Justice Mohammed, Assemblyman for the communities, who made the call during a familiarisation tour of the area by Mr Charles Yeboah, District Chief Executive, said the lack of potable water had brought in its wake water borne diseases, prominent among them was the guinea worm disease.

He said the problem was militating against food production since the farmers became incapacitated during the farming season. Mr Mohammed commended the government for the introduction of the mass cocoa spraying exercise and the increase in the producer price of the crop, which he noted, had given farmers in the area increased yields last year and this year.

He also commended the government for rehabilitating some feeder roads in the area for the easy transportation of cocoa and foodstuff. Mr Yeboah assured the people that the government would honour its campaign promises and announced that it had released 450 million cedis for the provision of 50 boreholes in the district and that the four communities would not be left out.
