At least four people have been confirmed dead and several injured in a fatal accident on the Buipe-Tamale road.
The accident occurred Saturday night around 12:00 noon at Janikura in the Central Gonja District of the newly created Savannah region.
According to eyewitnesses,the driver of a cargo truck carrying market women from Lingbinshi en route Buipe in the Central Gonja District to Tamale fell into slumber and veered off a sharp curve at Janikura few kilometres away from Junction.
The cargo truck which was fully loaded with bags of maize, millet,soyabeans and other grains together with the market women somersaulted and fell, but unknown to rescuers, most of the passengers were trapped under the sacks of grains.
The full identities of the driver and dead bodies are yet to be ascertained.
The dead bodies have since been deposited at the West Gonja Hospital morgue,whilst the injured persons are currently receiving treatment at the Tamale Teaching Hospital and the Buipe hospital.
