Free vacation classes making progress in Ablekuma South - Okoe Vanderpuyie

The free vacation classes being hosted by Hon. Alfred Okoe Vanderpuyie, the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma South is gradually making progress in the constituency with nearly one thousand students partaking in the summer classes.

On Wednesday, Okoe Vanderpuyie went round to inspect the progress of the classes which is being organized in public schools in the constituency.

About a thousand students drawn from the constituency made of of students from Primary, Junior High School, Senior High School attend the classes on a daily basis whereas a highly trained team of teachers work together to instill knowledge into the pupils ahead of the new academic calendar.

The classes which is the third of its kind is organized to help students in the elementary level fill the gaps between their educational standards as the vacation classes create the avenue for students to engage in the educational process and in addition assists in the preparation for new academic year.

Vanderpuyie said, he took the initiative because of how most parents in the constituency find it difficult to make ends meet and how some students fall out the education ladder due to lack of support to help them stay on track and sharpen their rough edges.



Speaking to Pressmen shortly after the inspection at all three schools where the classes are taking place, the erstwhile prominent Accra Mayor said, "there are vacation classes which are being organized for parents to pay, but the socio-economic level of parents in the community is very low and therefore there was the need to support the parents. So when we give the children free classes then it's a means for the parents to save money for the upcoming academic season.

As a member of the forgotten school shift system, he reiterated that "there were several schools in the community who suffered under the shift system and until the shift system ended there were so many students who were not staying in school and a lot were denied access to proper education.



Vanderpuyie further encourages parents to allow their wards partake in the effective classes which has brought tremendous improvements into the lives of the students, stating that the classes is not meant only for pupils in public schools or parents with political party backgrounds.

The MP also added that efforts are being worked on to ensure that the classes become sustainable and monitor students who come from deprived homes.
