Fresh clashes have erupted between the Sayeebu and Sabiruk families over a piece of land close to Binbagu near Nakpanduri in the Northern Region.
About seventy houses were burnt down completely while a building containing farm produce stored by the community for food security in Sayeebu was destroyed.
One Daniel Singel, 27, was found dead in the bush and was believed to have been shot by his opponents during the clashes.
Some women in the community were seen moving out of the community with their children and animals to nearby villages.
Speaking to DAILY GUIDE at the scene, a woman named Suglu said, “We cannot stay here any longer because I cannot find my husband and other relatives; just myself and my two children.”
The clashes started at about 7am on Sunday morning between the two communities.
Constable Fredrick Dadzie of the Ghana Police Service was shot at close range in an exchange of fire between the Sayeebu and Sabiruk communities over the land.
One person was also injured in the process and was sent to the hospital for treatment.
Investigations conducted by DAILY GUIDE at the scene indicated that the clashes erupted after the chief of Sayeebu, Singel Suuk, and the chief of Sabiruk, Pakabiuk Loaka, clashed over the ownership of a boundary between the two villages.
But for the timely intervention of the military and police, who rescued the Chief of Sayeebu, Mr Singel Suuk, he would have been dead because of the exchange of fire between the security and the Sabiruk who were desperate to capture the chief.
The assemblyman for Nakpanduri South, Kolan Monandam, told DAILY GUIDE that “I wish government can intervene as soon as possible to make sure they stabilise the situation before it turns to something else.”
He commended the security for the good work they had done to keep the area stable and hoped there would be reinforcement to help the security personnel on the ground.
