GCB presents C25m to support Okyenhene's anniversary

Accra, Oct. 12, GNA - The Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) on Tuesday presented a cheque for 25 million cedis to the Okyenhene Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin in support of the fifth anniversary celebration of his enstoolment.

Mr Roko Frimpon, Deputy Managing Director, Operations, Mr James Patrick Oppon (rpt Oppon), Executive Head, Credit International Trade Finance and Mr Edward Kwarpong, General Manager, Human Resource Department, represented the Management of the Bank.

They also presented two bottles of schnapps as protocol demanded, at the Okyenhene's residence at Adabraka in Accra, where the ceremony took place.

Presenting the cheque, Mr Frimpon, Head of the Delegation, said the money was in appreciation of Osagyefuo Amoatia's effort to help to improve the living conditions of people in the remotest parts of the country.

He noted that the Okyenhene had not relented in his effort to protect and promote the preservation of the natural environment. Osagyefuo Amoatia thanked the Management of the Bank for the gesture.

He ascended the Ofori Panin Stool on October 4, 1999 when he succeeded his brother, Nana Kuntunkunuku II, who died. Currently, Osagyefuo is the chairperson of the Board of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Chairman of the Forestry Plantation Development Management Board; Vice President of Bird Life International and Vice President for World Parks Congress. He is also Patron of a large number of other sporting and cultural groups.

In attendance were Barima Boafo, Sankubenasehene, Nana Asante Bediatuo, Apagyahene and Nana Fredua Agyeman Okotomin, Asomkahene. Highlights of the weeklong celebration, beginning from Saturday through Sunday, include three days of tree planting, a symposium on the theme: "Akyem Abuakwa - The Way Forward", a mini-durbar at Kyebi and a special thanksgiving service. 12 Oct. 04
