GCUC presents two scholarships to Kenyase stool

Kenyase (Ash), Oct. 6, GNA 96 Garden City University College (GCUC), a private tertiary institution at Kenyase in the Kwabre district on Wednesday presented documents covering two scholarships to the chief of the town, Barima Osei Agyeman.

The gesture was to enable the chief and his elders to select two brilliant but needy students from the traditional area to be awarded a four-year scholarship to pursue a degree programme at the University. Dr Lord Asamoah, Principal of the University, said the scholarship formed part of its social responsibilities to the Kenyase community. He said the chiefs and people in the community had supported the University in diverse ways since it was established and there was the need to initiate programmes that would make the people to feel part of the institution.

Dr Asamoah said plans were far advanced to add Bachelor of Science in administration and nursing to the programmes being offered at the University, adding that it had also been affiliated to the University of the District of Columbia in the USA and other local universities in the country.

He appealed to parents to take advantage of the establishment of the university in the area and enrol their children to pursue tertiary education.

Dr Asamoah also appealed to students and pupils in the area to desist from all negative tendencies and concentrate on their education to enable them attain higher education.

He pointed out that the performance of those who would be awarded the scholarship would determine the continuation or increase in the number of beneficiaries of the scheme in the future.

Barima Osei Agyeman on his part thanked the management of the university, for the gesture and pledged the continued support of the chiefs and the people to the progress of the university. He expressed concern about the fallen standard in education in the Kwabre district and appealed to both teachers and pupils to rededicate themselves to reverse the trend.

Barima Agyeman cautioned the children against immoral activities that could affect their education and urged them to concentrate on their studies to enable them achieve higher academic laurels.
