GEM improves lighting system at KATH

Ghana Electrometer (GEM), the nation’s sole meter producing company has improved upon the street lighting system at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) at the cost of GH¢10, 000.

It is to beef up security at the only referral centre for the northern sector of the country.

The works included the restoration of 35 existing units to proper functioning, installation of two complete street light luminaries, donation of 23 complete street light luminaries with fittings and accessories.

Others also included the donation of 25 pieces of bulbs, 20 pieces of choke, 23 pieces of ignitors and capacitors, as well as 10 pieces of E40 lamp holders.

Mr. Obed Solomom, the Director of Operations and External Relations speaking in Kumasi at a ceremony to hand over the project, said street lighting was very important for every community as it helped in reducing crime and also enhances visibility, particularly at night.

“For a sensitive place like KATH, this is even more critical because patients and members of the community in and around the Hospital need lights to freely use the streets during darkness.”

Mr. Solomon said his company believes in public-private partnership to achieve its development goals, saying GEM had decided to improve on social amenities in communities in which it operates as part of efforts to meeting the company’s corporate social responsibilities.

The company provides the country with quality credit and pre-paid meters through the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to facilitate the country’s revenue generation, collection and protection efforts.

Professor Ohene Adjei, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of KATH, thanked the GEM for the gesture and said it would ward off intruders for the safety of patients, staff and visitors.
