Some Teachers in the Gomoa West district of the Central region are accusing the Ghana Education Service (GES) of worsening the already falling standard of education in the area by appointing people they describe as their cronies to head schools in the region.

Such actions, according to the teachers, fall flat of the GES' own rules as it is sidestepping qualified people in the area who have passed its interview therefore better placed to head such schools.

Speaking at a joint press conference at Apam with Old Students of Mozano Senior High School (SHS) also in the Gomoa West area, Spokesperson of the group Fiifi Sam accused GES of engaging in partisanship thereby appointing novices and unqualified people whose track record on their previous job clearly shows they do not have what it takes to head such schools as their competence according to him is not just questionable but indeed morally bankrupt.

The Teachers and Old Students, for instance, accused the GES of appointing Madam Perpetual Praise Amagashie an Assistant Headmistress of Gomoa Secondary Technical School as the substantive head of the Mozano Senior High School when she falls short of the requisite Deputy Director grade to head a secondary school.

Amagashie is an Asistant Director 1 who is yet to go through GES' interview to enable her acquire the grade of deputy director 2.

Fiifi Sam explained that Madam Amagashie’s appointment is politically motivated as she is the Gomoa West Constituency Chairperson of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and is known to be linked with officialdom be it at the GES or government.

He added that there are a lot of deputy directors in both the Mozano school and district as a whole but GES is intentionally ignoring such hard working, competent and qualified deputy directors to head vacant posts in secondary schools in the area.

The group therefore calls on all stakeholders in the education delivery process to as a matter of urgency to intervene and correct the anomaly being perpetuated by GES as such negative policies are not only eroding the commitment of teachers in the area.

‘But ultimately destroying educational delivery in the area per the actions of some self centred individuals who would stop at nothing but satisfy their cronies at the expense of quality leadership and performance in the district,’ they said.
