GES urged to intensify its monitoring programme

Twifo-Hemang (C/R), Aug. 26 GNA- Mr Kwadwo Adjei-Darko, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development on Wednesday, called on the Ghana Education Service (GES) to intensify its monitoring role to check lapses in teaching and learning.

He called on chiefs and parents to ensure quality education in the country.

Mr Adjei-Darko made the call in a speech read for him at the inauguration of a 186-million-cedi Day Care Centre complex, at Twifo-Heman in the Central Region.

The district assembly and the Afro-Asian Rural Development Organisation (AARDO), which provided 102 million cedis and 84 million cedis, respectively, financed the project.

About 13 of the 28 countries including Ghana, which form the AARDO attended the function, as part of the organisation's programme in commemoration of its 52nd Delegates Conference in Accra.

The Minister called maintenance of the facilities at the school and asked the people to consider the complex as their personal property. He commended AARDO for its gesture, and hoped it would go a long way to strengthen the co-operation among member countries.

Mr Isaac Edumadze, the Regional Minister in an address read for him, described AARDO's support as "a testimony of practical demonstration of the organisation's work for higher standards of education and development of member countries".

The Sudanese Ambassador to India, Mr Abdalmahmood Abdalhaleem, and acting President of AARDO, commended Ghana's hospitality, and said she has become a role model for good governance in Africa.

He assured the people of the area of more development projects in future.

Mr Abraham Dwuma Odoom, the District Chief Executive expressed gratitude to AARDO for the financial assistance to build the Day Care Centre.

Nana Amoa Sasrako III, Omanhene of Twifo-Heman Traditional Area, who chaired the function, called on parents to send their children to school to enable them become responsible citizens.
