GETFund releases 90 million cedis for Nwabiagya schools

Nkawie (Ash), Sept. 21, GNA - The Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) has released 90 million cedis for the rehabilitation and renovation of some basic schools in the Atwima-Nwabiagya constituency. They included Sepaase, Hiawu-Besease, Manhyia, Maakro and Koforidua.

Mr James Adusei-Sarkodie, Member of Parliament (MP) for Atwima-Nwabiagya, who briefed the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Nkawie on Monday, said he has donated 100 bags of cement and 20 million cedis cash to the Maakro residents for the construction of a day care centre and 20 dual desks to Ntensere.

Another 20 million cedis, he said, was also being spent on the rehabilitation of Manhyia basic school.

Mr Adusei-Sarkodie said 70 million cedis was released by the GETFund last year for the rehabilitation of schools at Ahodwo, Ntabanu, Ntensere, Boahenkwaa and the construction of teachers living accommodation at Ahwiaa.

He said a 500 million-cedi GETFund school block consisting of six classrooms, an office, store and a library was under construction at Abuakwa, while two other six-classroom blocks estimated at over 600 million cedis were also being put up at Abuakwa under the Social Investment Fund (SIF) project.

Mr Adusei-Sarkodie said the government is constructing a three-classroom block consisting of an office, store, staff common hall and an eight-seater latrine for the Akropong community at the cost of 480 million cedis.

The MP said the effective improvement and provision of quality education is the major key to the socio-economic development of the area and advised the beneficiary communities to take good care of the educational infrastructure.

Mr Eddy Obeng-Darko, the Atwima District Director of Education, commended the MP for his immense contribution towards the development of education in the area and said the provision of educational infrastructure has tremendously improved quality teaching and learning.
