A GH?65, 000 clinic for the people of Kobedi, a farming community in the Sunyani West District of the Brong-Ahafo Region was on Thursday inaugurated.
The Kobedi Community-Based Health Planning and Service (CHIP) is a collaborative effort by MAP International and Infanta Malaria Prevention Foundation, both NGOs as their contribution to the Ghana Health Service (GHS) vision to ensure total good health care for Ghanaians.
Mr. Idris Buabeng, Country Programme Manager of MAP International based in Sunyani, said the provision of the clinic would improve health care among the people within its catchment area.
He said the NGO was established at Nkoranza in 2008, but relocated to Sunyani in 2010, and acknowledged the friendly cooperation from the people of Kobedi since the sod-cutting in March to its completion in July, this year.
Dr. Julien Ake, African Regional Director of MAP International, comprising Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire and Liberia said in addition to the clinic, the two NGOs would endeavour to assist in improving the living standards of the people in the area.
In addition to the African Regional Office, MAP International has offices in Asia, Latin America with its headquarters in Brunswick, Georgia, USA.
Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, Chairperson of Infanta Malaria Prevention Foundation said the health of mothers and children were their priority and had for the past seven years assisted people in deprived areas.
“We believe that we must make all resources possible for mothers to stay alive, stay in sound health and be able to take care of their children,” Mrs. Akufo-Addo stressed.
She gave the assurance that nurses would be living with the people at Kobedi to give them healthcare always.
Mrs. Akufo-Addo said the clinic would be provided with medical equipment and furniture.
Mrs. Esther Bamfo, National President of Community Health Nurses Association urged the people to maintain the clinic to prolong its life-span.
Miss. Paulina Babudu, a community health nurse has been posted to man the clinic.
