Fodoa (E/R), Aug. 2, GNA- Members of the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) Board, on Thursday inspected reconstruction works on some roads in the Ashanti Region.
These include the 89.1-kilometre Anyinam-Konongo, 39.7-kilometre Ejisu-Kuntanase-Bekwai and the 45-kilometre Mankranso-Tepa roads. Mr Kwaku Diafo, resident engineer on the Anyinam-Konongo road project, told the board members that 127.9 billion cedis project include asphaltic concrete overlay on the existing road.
He, however, said with the recent increase in volume of vehicular traffic, there was the need for redesigning and reconstruction of the road.
Mr Diafo explained that the structure of the road was incompetent to contain the present traffic volume, which had been occasioned by the influx of heavy-duty trucks from neighbouring landlocked countries. He, therefore, appealed to the board to consider the reconstruction of the road to ensure longer life span.
Mr J.A. Danso, the Board chairman, said though members were not expecting the problem, they would make the necessary recommendations to the government and the funding partners for consideration. He, however, urged the consultants, Messrs Twum Boafo and Associates, to undertake fresh traffic analysis and assessment on the road.
On the Ejisu-Kuntanase-Bekwai road, Mr Danso commended the contractors, Messrs Ussuya, a construction firm, for the good work done. He expressed the hope that the project would be completed on schedule.
On the Mankranso-Tepa road, Mr Danso urged the contractors, Messrs P&W Ghanem, to expedite work on the project.
