The Ghana Insurers Association (GIA) has made a donation worth thousands of Ghana cedis to the Demonstration School for the Deaf, Mampong-Akwapim in the Eastern Region.
The donation was part of activities commemorating the Insurance Industry Awareness Month.
Items donated included dual desks, toilet tissues, cooking oil, tins of milk, bags of maize and other edible food items.
The donation also formed part of the Association's annual corporate social responsibilities which sought to put smiles on the faces of members of the society.
The GIA has 47 (re)insurance companies in Ghana. Presenting the items to the school, Mr Henry Bukari, Member of the Board of the GIA who is also the Managing Director of Phoenix Insurance expressed his optimism that the items would help complement what the government already provided them to make their operations easy.
Bukari, who was accompanied by Dr Kingsley Kwesi Kwabahson, the CEO of the GIA, and other management and staff of the insurance companies trade body, explained that the GIA found it joyous to show these students love and care.
The month-long programme is being held under the theme 'Making Insurance the Ghanaian Way of Life'.
The campaign aims at increasing the public’s understanding of insurance concepts, educating them on how insurance could mitigate the potential risks faced in their personal and professional lives and encouraging the need for financial planning and inclusion.
Receiving the items on behalf of the School, Mr Devine Edem Kodadze, the Assistant Headmaster of the School extended their heartfelt gratitude to the GIA.
He stated: “In fact, your donation today has come at the right time so I have a word for you. On behalf of the Headmaster and the entire school, especially the students, I will say THANK YOU VERY MUCH for coming in to support the feeding of the students. Thank you and God bless you, Ghana Insurers Association and we assure you that the items you brought, we’ll really put to good use for the benefit of the students.” he added.
Kodadze used the opportunity to appeal to the government, and charitable organisations to recognise the school’s unique needs and provide the necessary resources to enhance teaching and learning activities.
