Kumasi, July 19, GNA - Mrs Rebecca Akita, Ashanti Regional Director of the Ghana Library Board (GLB), has appealed for more support to enable them to extend mobile library services to all the districts.

The service is presently limited to only two of the 27 metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies in the region - Adansi North and Asante-Akim South, due to the lack of funding. Mrs Akita, who was speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview in Kumasi, said the mobile libraries were helping to whip up the enthusiasm of young people, especially those in rural areas, in reading and Information and Communication Technology (ICT). But for these pupils in some deprived schools, with no access to electricity, used to be taught ICT without seeing and touching the computer.

She expressed the Board's appreciation to the management of Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communication (GIFEC), an IT company, for helping to revitalize the mobile libraries through the donation of computers, tents, chairs and internet access. Mr Ofosu Frimpong, Assistant Library Officer, said they were impressed by the high level of interest among teachers, students and parents in the libraries. 19 July 11
