GJA invites Military to join sanitation campaign

The Volta Regional branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has invited the 66 Artillery Regiment (Volta Barracks) in Ho to join it fight insanitary conditions in the Region, especially, Ho, the Regional capital.

Mr A.B. Kafui Kanyi, Volta Regional Chairman for the Association said the Military was noted for cleanliness and discipline and asked the Regiment to join GJA instil "sanitation discipline" in the populace for a clean society.

He was speaking at a soiree organized by the Regiment for media practitioners after friendly Media/Military games at the barracks.

Mr Kanyi said environmental cleanliness was everybody’s responsibility and underscored the need for institutions and traditional rulers to join the campaign to keep the environment clean and promote healthy living.

He said with the support of the Military, GJA would take the conversation closer to the people through a practical learning experience.

Mr Alberto Mario Norreti, Secretary, GJA-Volta earlier described Volta Barracks as the institution with the cleanest environment in the Region and also asked the Regiment to extend the cleanliness to the larger community.

Lieutenant Colonel Bernard B. Pantoah, Commanding Officer of the Regiment stated the readiness of the Regiment to join the sanitation campaign and suggested a joint route march and sensitisations against unsanitary conditions.

Weeks ago, the officers and men of the Regiment joined journalists and media practitioners to clean the Ho Central Market as part of activities to launch GJA Sanitation campaign.

The local campaign is part of GJA national agenda to help keep Ghana clean.

The campaign in the Volta Region with focus on Ho is to reposition the regional capital as the "oxygen city" of Ghana, with GJA beautifying some popular joints with colours of the national flag with the inscription, "keep Ho clean."
