GNASBA launches tree planting campaign in Kumasi schools

The Ghana National Scholarship Beneficiaries Association (GNASBA) has launched a massive tree planting campaign to beautify the compound of selected senior high and basic schools in Kumasi.

In all 2,500 shady and ornamental trees would be planted during the year.

Baffour Akwasi Oppong, National Chairman of the Association, said they are doing this in honour of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

Fan Milk is providing support.

Speaking at a ceremony held at the Technology Senior High School (SHS) to mark the start of the campaign, he said it is important for all to share in the responsibility of protecting the environment.

He called on Metropolitan, Municipal and District assemblies to rigidly enforce environmental by-laws to stop the indiscipline and restore some level of sanity.

Madam Joyce Owusu-Ansah, Headmistress of Technology SHS, praised GNASBA for the initiative and pledged that the school would nurture the trees that would be planted on campus.

She appealed for more support for brilliant but needy students.

According to her, they need to be given the necessary financial assistance to pursue their academic careers.

Nana Owusu Nyanin, Chief of Kwamo, who represented the Asantehene, assured the association of the Asante King’s backing.

Mr Godfred King Boachie, Deputy Director, Human Resource and Material Development, Kumasi Metropolitan Education Directorate, lauded the GNASBA for its educational programmes.

He encouraged students to take active interest in keeping the environment clean and safe.
