Accra, Jan 9, GNA - The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) on Friday assured President John Evans Atta Mills of an effective working relationship to achieve quality public education for all Ghanaian children by 2015. This was contained in a statement signed by Mr Joseph Kwaku Adjei, National President of the association to congratulate the President on his election to the highest office of the land. While acknowledging that there were tough times ahead, the statement expressed the hope that the new government would expeditiously constitute an effective administration to face the daunting challenges ahead of it.
It also expressed the hope that the President would reconcile the nation by avoiding acts that were likely to further polarize the country.
It commended the President for demonstrating good faith in the country's democratic process and also all stakeholders for the peaceful conduct of the elections.
In another development, the Organisation of African Trade Union Unity (OATUU) also congratulated the President on his election. A statement signed by Hassan Sunmonu, Secretary General of the OATUU said the President's election was a pride to Ghana and Africa, and a testament to people-empowered democracy being promoted by the African Union. It said the OATUU admired the President's "never-say-die" spirit, and the commitment to the welfare of all Ghanaians as well as the socio-economic development of the country. It said the OATUU and African Workers hoped that the new administration would make the satisfaction of the basic needs of Ghanaians, including "decent work for all" the cornerstone of its socio-economic agenda.
