The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) in collaboration with the Canadian Teachers Federation (CTF) on Tuesday presented teaching and learning materials to Amuman M/A Basic School in the Ga south district of the Greater Accra region.
The items which included alphabet cards, readers, copy books, chalk, sharpener, sleeping mat, dusters, washable crayons, jumbo pencils, play dough and safety scissors was presented by Mr. Thomas Baafi, the deputy General Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Teachers.
Amuman M/A Basic School is one of the four selected less endowed Early Childhood Centres (ECD) to facilitate teaching and learning.
Madam Catherine Douris, one of the four Canadian Resource Persons on the GNAT/CTF Literacy and Numeracy programme in July 2013, engineered a move to write proposal to solicit funds to purchase teaching and learning materials to support selected schools.
According to William Fifi Sey, an amount of four thousand Canadian dollars (CAD 4,000) which translated into Nine thousand, four hundred and forty one Ghana cedis, sixty-two Ghana pesewas (GHC9,441.62) was donated by the Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association (OECTA), Canada to support the four schools in four regions. The selected schools include Tano Odumasi SDA ECD, Agona – Ashanti region, Oyoko R/C ECD centre, Oyoko – Eastern region, Tsito EP ECD centre, Tsito – Volta region and Amuman M/A ECD centre, Amuman – Greater Accra region.
The other three selected schools will receive their donation next week according to Mr. Ernest Asamoa, the project coordinator of GNAT.
