Cape Coast, Aug 1, GNA – Over 170 teachers and educational administrators in the Central Region have been given in-service training in teaching methods and leadership skills to expose them to modern trends of teaching.
The week long workshop organized jointly by the Canadian Teachers Federation (CTF) and the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) was aimed at improving the instructive skills of teachers in the Central Region.
The teachers were taken through the teaching of various subjects including Math, English, Integrated Science and French from the primary to Senior High School level by a resource team comprising of Ghanaians and Canadians.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Mrs Prisca Ninwienah, an Evaluation Officer of the workshop, said the series of workshops carried out for the teachers had made an impact on them.
Mrs Ninwienah said a research done showed that they now have the requisite academic, social skills and knowledge to help improve the educational system in the country.
“The impact has been tremendous for enlightening and giving wide exposure to teachers”, she said, adding that it had also created a platform to open more relationships for teachers and heads of schools to adopt good teaching practices.
Mr John Nyoagbe, Deputy General Secretary of GNAT, said such workshops were commendable and suggested that more of such efforts be put in place to help improve and upgrade teachers.
He also called for the early migration of teachers into the single spine salary structure.
He was hopeful that government will continue to prioritize education by providing the required educational infrastructure and state of the art learning resources including Information Communication Technology (ICT) to aid learning and teaching.
Reverend Paa Solomon Grant Essilfie, Regional Chairman of GNAT said he was optimistic that the seminar would yield the desired impact for teachers to overcome challenges that confronts them.
