Nkoranza (B/A) Jan. 10, GNA - Mr. Kwaku Duah, Vice-Chairman of Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) in Nkoranza District in Brong Ahafo has commended drivers of the Union and the Progressive Transport Owners Association (PROTOA) for their carefulness on the road that ensured an accident-free Christmas in the area.
Speaking at a press conference at Nkoranza at the weekend, Mr. Duah wished the drivers and members of the two transport bodies prosperous New Year and success.
He appreciated the efforts of the drivers that ensured a low number of accidents in the district last year.
The GPRTU Vice-Chairman cautioned the drivers to be extra careful on the roads and guard against speeding, over-loading and unnecessary over-taking, which, he said, are the main causes of lorry accidents.
Mr. Duah warned them against alcoholism and taking hard drugs while Driving, in order to avoid accidents.
Mr. Duah called on transport owners to ensure the regular maintenance of their vehicles and to ensure that they possessed all relevant roadworthy documents.
He expressed concern about the practice by loading boys of the two transport bodies to fight over loads at the lorry parks and advised them to change for the better for sanity to prevail at the stations. The GPRTU Vice Chairman emphasized that the fact that they belonged to different transport unions did not mean they were enemies, adding the profits they made would be used in developing Nkoranza. Mr. Duah called on opinion leaders and other stakeholders in the district to come together and ensure a cordial relationship between members of the GPRTU and PROTOA.
