The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) at Mangoase in the Eastern Region have called for the reshaping of the Mangoase-Kukua and the Mangoase-Adawso feeder roads.

“The undulating clay-like stretch roads are making it extremely difficult for motorist to convey passengers to and from their communities”.

Mr Awuku Amposah, Mangoase Local GPRTU Chairman, told the Ghana News Agency at Mangoase that reshaping of Adawso-Mangoase- Kukua roads would help to curb accidents, facilitate travelling and carting of food items from the area.

He described the road network of the area as death trap, and expressed worry about the cut-off point at Asarekrom-Nsuagya on the Mangoase-Kukua road, where rocks formed part of the road.

According to him, other cut-off points at Yaw Badu, Betemano and Ayika had developed the deepest potholes on the route and needed immediate reshaping.

Mr Amponsah, therefore, appealed to the government to help in the construction of the roads to open up the economy of the area, adding; “the area is noted for the cultivation of plantain, cassava, citrus and other cash crops”.

He said since the only activity in the area was farming, it was necessary to reshape the roads to help farmers transport their foodstuffs to the buying centres, so as to generate enough income to support their families.
