GTA to celebrate chocolate day

The Ghana Tourism Authority [GTA] in collaboration with the Ghana Cocoa Board [COCOBOD] and the Cocoa Processing Company [CPC] will climax this year’s National Chocolate Day on Saturday February 14, 2015.

The National Chocolate Day instituted in 2006 is aimed at promoting the consumption of Ghana Chocolate and Cocoa based products, minimize anti-social vices associated with the celebration of Valentine’s Day, increase awareness on the health benefits of Chocolate and boost domestic tourism.

In a release issued to the Ghana News Agency on Tuesday in Accra, it said as an indigenous manufacturer of chocolate in Ghana, Cocoa Processing Company Limited continue to be a key supporter of the programme each year.

It said the National Chocolate Day in its ninth (9th) year since its introduction onto the tourism calendar of events, has increased awareness of the positive effect of chocolate.

It stated that this year’s celebration is on the theme “chocolate makes everything better”.

“As part of the celebrations, the GTA would organize seminars and workshops for stakeholders in the hospitality industry to promote the consumption of chocolate and cocoa based products”.

On Tuesday, February 10 and Wednesday, February 11, 2015, there would be Product – Use Workshop with a seasoned Chocolatier from South Africa and expert Pastry Chefs from Mauritius and Kenya for Leading Pastry Chefs, Cake Decorators and Catering School Instructors in Ghana.

The release said there would also be an educational forum on Cocoa at the National Theatre, Accra on Friday, February 13, 2015.

It said on Saturday, February 14, there would be an Exhibition of Chocolate and Cocoa Based Products, a Demonstration Work-Shops, as well as a Musical Concert at the Accra Mall.

In addition, there will also be a tour to the Cocoa Research Institute, Tafo and Bunso Arboretum.

Various activities would also be held in the regions to mark the Chocolate Day Celebrations, it added.
