GWCL losing 46% of treated water

The Eastern regional branch of Ghana Water Company Limited, GWCL, losses 46% of the total treated water distributed to consumers mainly through illegal connection.

The situation has been described by the company as a “bane” on the finances of the GWCL.

According to the company, efforts are being made to identify and fix the revenue leakage which is being perpetrated through illegal connections in the region.

The Public Relations Officers of the GWCL in the Eastern region, Kojo Daase in an interview with Starr News said the lost control Unit of the company has intensified it surveillance to uncover illegal connections leading to uncounted water usage.

He mentioned, that through the operation of the Loss Control Unit, a Hotel in Koforidua known as Passage Lodge has been identified to have illegally connected water since 2014 consuming uncounted water worth GHC13, 900.

Mr. Daase stated that, the company has intensified its routine monitoring exercise through the Loss control unit across the region with the expectation to reduce the losses in the system.
