Ga East Minicipal expresses appreciation to BMGF

The Ga East Municipal Chief Executive, has expressed his appreciation to Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) in the US for the construction of a public toilet facility at Taifa a at a cost of $55,000.

Mr John Kwao Sackey said the project was sourced from the BMGF, under the African Urban Poverty Alleviation Programme, through Grand Rapids, a sister city partner with the Municipal Assembly.

He said GEMA entered into relationship with Grand Rapids in 1994, which has grown from strength to strength in a number of mutual benefits between the two cities.

Mr Sackey gave the commendation at the inauguration of the 12- seater water closet toilet facility at Taifa in Accra.

Ms Mary Kane, President of Sister City International (SCI) said the good work done by the GEMA was appreciated by the MGF and Grand Rapids, adding , “this will be spread in all American cities for people to know what sister cities are doing.”

She said SCI would continue to work to improve the standard of sister cities communities through sourcing of funds and support of donors.

Ms Kane called on the GEMA to ensure that adequate supervision is put in place to maintain and sustain the facility.

He expressed the hope that more efforts would be made to promote the relationship between the two cities.
