Accra, April 1, GNA - Mr. John Saka Addo, President of the Old Accra Development Agency (OACADA) on Wednesday called on the people of Ga-Mashie to ensure maximum environmental hygiene to rid the area of numerous sanitation related diseases.

"There is the need for total change of attitude especially among us, in our quest for healthy living and improvement in our lives", he said. Mr Addo said this at the inauguration of a GHC 8,000 paved alley project at James Town under the Alley Improvement Project of the Ga Mashie Development Agency (GAMADA) to improve the living conditions in the area. The project was funded by the HFC bank in partnership with CHF-International a USA financial company. The project sought to improve tourism, sanitation and local economic development in selected areas within Ga-Mashie. Mr Addo therefore charged the community members to be committed to the development agenda of OACADA and GAMADA in the re-engineering and development of the Ga-State. Mr Jonathan Tackie-Kommey, Member of Parliament for the Odododiodioo Constituency noted that they were working hard to develop most of the historical sites in the area to attract tourists. "This will reduce the burden of poverty and deprivation that has bedevilled this area for sometime now."

Mr Tackie-Kommey urged the community to support in the re-development of the area to attract tourists into the area and called on them to also be watchdogs over the projects executed so far. Mr Asare Akuffo, Managing Director, HFC Bank noted that the Ga-Mashie area was endowed with lots of potentials that could be unearthed to improve the livelihood of the people. He said the bank was ready to partner and commit resources into the area to give it a facelift. Mr Asare Akuffo said: "We hope in five years time the area will be developed to attract tourists".
