Garages Association petitions Asantehene over land encroachment

The Ashanti Regional Secretariat of the Ghana National Association of Garages (GNAG) has petitioned the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu, over the alleged encroachment on a swathe of land for the Tafo Industrial Complex (New Site).

The Association wants the Asante King to intervene to prevent imminent violent clashes between the artisans and the Muslim Youth Association, which is doing everything possible to seize the land for a cemetery.

Tension is mounting over a concrete wall the Muslims are constructing to deny the GNAG the legitimate use of the land it claims has been delineated for its members, and warned that if not resolved, it could explode into a nasty confrontation anytime soon between the two groups.

The petition was signed by Mr. Yaw Opoku, Regional GNAG Administrator, a copy of which was made available to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Kumasi on Tuesday.

Attached were the site plan, and a copy of Executive Instrument (EI 36) to back its claim of title to the disputed parcel of land.

It appealed to the Asantehene to prevail on the Regional Survey Department to properly demarcate the boundary between the cemetery and the industrial complex, to end the controversy and restore calm.
