German Ambassador donates to SORNEP School

Gbanyamni (N/R), April 13, GNA - Dr Maruis Hass, German Ambassador to Ghana, says Ghana has become a household name in his country following Ghana's spectacular performance at the 2006 world cup in Germany. He said the performance of the Black Stars during the world cup, buoyed by the performance of Ghanaian professional footballers in Germany had proven that there were great talents in the country which needed to be promoted.

Dr Hass made these remarks at Gbanyamni, a village near Tamale, when he donated equipment valued at GH¢9,004 (?6.350) to SORNEP International School, the only primary school in the area. Items donated were six footballs, two sets of jerseys, two computers, a photocopier, a television set, digital video and cassette recorders, two poly tanks, cupboards and three teacher's tables and chairs. The Ambassador said he was ready to help promote soccer, especially in schools in the rural areas. He advised the school authorities and the children to make good use of the items. Ghana in the near future". Mr Awaafo Desmond Mohammed, proprietor of the school, said 25 percent of enrolment in the school was allocated to the needy and orphans who would receive free education up to Junior High School Level. He said his outfit would use the curriculum of the Ghana Education Service in teaching and stressed that Information Communication Technology was compulsory for every child in the school. Mr Mohammed thanked the German Ambassador for his kind gesture and promised to utilize the items to the benefit of the pupils.
